"Gardaí and emergency services responded to medical incident which occurred at a sports facility in Longford town today, Monday December 8 at approximately 10.40am," said a garda spokesperson. "A man, aged in his 50s, was taken to the Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced deceased. The Health and Safety Authority has been notified (and) the local Coroner has been informed. "A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation."
A 38-year-old man was fatally struck by a train on Tuesday that was pulling into a Brooklyn subway station. The victim was on the track bed as a southbound N train was pulling into the Kings Highway station around 5:54 p.m. near Kings Highway and W. Seventh St. in Gravesend. The conductor failed to stop in time and struck the man, cops said.
A 26-year-old Brampton man is dead after a crash on Highway 401 involving two commercial vehicles east of Woodstock, Ont., police say. Emergency crews were called to the two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Oxford Road 29 in Drumbo at around 7 a.m., according to Ontario Provincial Police. When emergency crews arrived, they discovered that one commercial vehicle had rear-ended another commercial vehicle.
One woman is dead after a collision in Scarborough Wednesday evening, Toronto police say. The collision happened just before 7 p.m. near Markham Road and Finch Avenue E., when a pick-up truck crashed in an industrial area, police said on X, formerly Twitter. A woman died on the scene, police say. A man was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to paramedics. Police are asking witnesses to contact them.
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Santa Cruz Wharf over the weekend when a vehicle went off the edge of the pier and into the water, sparking a frantic rescue effort that ended with authorities recovering a body and a dog. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle break through the wooden railing at 9:44 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived, they found the damaged section about two-thirds away from the start of the wharf.
Martínéz, 27, was driving to Inter's training ground in Appiano Gentile when at 9:43 a.m. on a provincial road in Fenegrò, Como, Italy, when the car struck a man in an electric wheelchair that had crossed into his lane, the police report said. Martínéz stopped at the scene and called the emergency services, with an ambulance and a helicopter arriving minutes later, but attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
SANTA CRUZ The victim of a Sunday morning crash at the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf that resulted in a vehicle driving through the railing and into the Monterey Bay has been identified as William Westerman, 65, of Scotts Valley. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office confirmed Westerman's identity Monday afternoon. On Monday, lilies had been placed at the spot on the wharf where the vehicle drove through the railing and a crew from the city of Santa Cruz was working to repair the damage.
A 46-year-old BMW driver died early Sunday after he slammed into a support pillar underneath elevated subway tracks in the Bronx, police said. The driver was zipping south on Jerome Ave. in Fordham Heights when he sideswiped an I-beam supporting the overhead No. 4 train tracks near E. 181st St. just before 4:30 a.m., cops said. He then veered away, over-corrected and crashed his 2022 BMW 330i into another I-beam head-on, cops said.

A 44-year-old man from Carden is dead after an ATV accident on Sunday night, said the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Emergency personnel responded to an ATV rollover on Lake Dalrymple Road in Carden Township, about 84 kilometers north of Oshawa, Ont., said OPP in a news release. The 44-year-old driver of the ATV had been ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.
A fire in a detached house in northern Munich set off a large emergency operation on Wednesday, with police and firefighters blocking roads and urging residents to avoid the Lerchenau area.
