'There is a pall of gloom' - Limerick community in grief as woman dies in crash, gardai search for driver that left scene
"First of all I would like to extend sympathy, of course, to the family. I know the family, they are well respected in the parish. At this minute there's a pall of gloom over the place as a result of the tragic accident last night."
"People are devastated for the family. You hear of these accidents, but when it hits your local village, it feels more real. It's what everyone is talking about this morning."
"I am absolutely broken to hear the news for another innocent family. It's a tragedy."
"I'm very saddened to hear that this would happen on Valentine's weekend. My thoughts and prayers are with the family."
Gardaí appealed for witnesses after one driver fled the scene, leaving his vehicle behind following a collision on the N24 near Grange West, Boher, County Limerick at about 11.10pm. A female driver was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the University Hospital Limerick mortuary for post-mortem; she is understood to be from Pallasgreen. A man in his 40s, the sole occupant of the second car, was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Local clergy, community members and councillors expressed shock and sympathy. Gardaí requested anyone with information to come forward.
