Victim in early morning Foxborough fire identified

"George Schubert, 81, was killed in the fire, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office. He was the sole resident of the house where the fire occurred. Schubert's dog also died in the blaze, which broke out on Granite Street at about 3 a.m., according to fire officials."

"When they arrived, the house was already consumed with flames venting through the windows, fire officials said. Firefighters from Mansfield and Plainville also came to the scene to help extinguish the flames. Within an hour, they had put the fire out, but the home sustained serious damage, according to fire officials."

A house fire in Foxborough broke out early Tuesday morning at approximately 3 a.m. on Granite Street. George Schubert, 81, was the sole resident of the home and died in the blaze along with his dog. A town police officer detected smoke in the area and alerted the Foxborough Fire Department. Upon arrival, firefighters found the house already engulfed in flames with fire venting through windows. Firefighters from Mansfield and Plainville assisted in extinguishing the fire within an hour. The home sustained serious damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by officials.
