
"A 53-year-old Bay Area man died at a Tahoe ski resort on Sunday, the Placer County Sheriff's Office confirmed to SFGATE in an email. On Feb. 15, Northstar ski patrol responded to an on-mountain collision of two guests on the Polaris trail at Northstar California Resort. The Northstar Fire Department pronounced one of the skiers dead, Northstar California Resort spokesperson Dennis Baggett told SFGATE in an email."
"The Placer County Sheriff's Office has identified the deceased as 53-year-old Stuart McLaughlin from Hillsborough. The other skier was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee for treatment, Baggett said. Their current status is unknown. 'We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and the Northstar team extends our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and friends of the guests involved,' Tara Schoedinger, Northstar's general manager, said in a statement. The Polaris trail is a black diamond trail on the backside of Mount Pluto."
"The backside of the mountain is known for its uninterrupted advanced runs. Eleven of the backside's 17 trails are classified as black diamond runs. Northstar California Ski Resort is one of several resorts in Tahoe that received several feet of snow during a deadly winter storm between Sunday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, at least eight skiers died from an avalanche while on a backcountry trip in the Castle Peak area."
