The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake's epicenter was located 22 kilometers (14 miles) west-southwest of the town of Khulm, and that it struck at 12:59 a.m. at a depth of 28 kilometers (17 miles). A one-year-old child has died following a hazardous materials incident at a flat in east London, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) has said. Fire crews were called to a property in Barking Road, Upton Park, in Newham, after two adults and two children attended hospital complaining about a smell of chemicals in a flat. The one-year-old child later died in hospital while receiving treatment. Around 12 people were evacuated from surrounding properties as a precaution as crews responded, LFB said.
Two people are dead after a Boeing 747 cargo plane landing at Hong Kong International Airport veered off the runway and into the sea on Monday. According to a statement from Hong Kong's civil aviation department, the incident happened at around 3:50 a.m. local time. The department said the flight, which was arriving from Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport, had "deviated from the North Runway after landing and ditched into the sea."

An explosion and fire rocked a refinery in El Segundo on Thursday night, causing massive balls of flames that could be seen for miles. The cause of the incident was unclear, and officials have not provided any details. The orange flames and plumes of smoke were visible for miles in the El Segundo and South Bay area and fire personnel were on scene shooting streams of water at the fire.
