
James McIntyre, from Ballyshannon in County Donegal, received a Distinguished Service Award from Mountain Rescue Ireland’s governing body. The award recognizes 25 years of voluntary service as an Emergency Responder with Mountain Rescue Teams in both Sligo and Mayo. He joined the Mayo Mountain Rescue Team in 2001 while working as an outdoor instructor on Achill Island. After moving back to Ballyshannon, he transferred to the Sligo/Leitrim Team and has been an active responder since 2010. He currently serves as the Sligo/Leitrim Team Medical Officer. His call-outs include remote rescues across hills and mountains such as Ben Bulben, Croagh Patrick, Sliabh Liag, and Errigal.
