Missing toddler in northern Sweden found alive after over 14 hours
A two-year-old boy who disappeared in Nyaker, 60 kilometres west of Umea in northern Sweden, was found alive just after 1am on Monday, more than 14 hours after he went missing. He was slightly cold and was taken to hospital. The boy was last seen playing with a tape measure in the garden while his family believed he was indoors. A large search operation was launched using dogs, drones, and a helicopter, with searches of nearby properties and involvement from the Armed Forces, Missing People, mountain rescue teams, emergency services, and local volunteers. He was found after search teams heard him crying, within the designated search area. Police did not provide further details and did not confirm whether foul play was suspected.
"The boy has been found alive, slightly cold, and is being taken to hospital. All's well that ends well, one might say,"
"The boy was found by search teams just after 1am on Monday over 14 hours after he first disappeared. "We want to thank everyone, we are so relieved," the boy's grandmother told the Expressen newspaper. She told Expressen that the boy, who was to turn three, disappeared after playing with a tape measure in the garden while the family believed he was indoors."
"A massive search operation involving dogs, drones and a helicopter was launched. All properties in the immediate area were search during the operation, which also involved the Armed Forces, Missing People, mountain rescue teams, the emergency services, and volunteers from the village and other villages in the area. The boy was eventually found after he was heard crying, according to the newspaper."
""We will not be releasing more details at this stage, but he was found within our designated search area," said Schaufele. Police declined to comment on whether any foul play is suspected, though earlier on Sunday, there was no such suspicion."
