In the heart of north London's Archway, St John's Tavern has, since the Victorian era, been a staple of the area, popular amongst both locals and other punters travelling from across the city. Earlier this year, St John's Tavern closed its door - but not for long, as it reopened in November 2025 after a significant restoration and renovation. This leafy part of north London has its fair share of stylish gastropubs,

The Gunton Arms is not your average country pub however. Rather than being in the heart of cute little village, it's tucked inside the 1,000-acre grounds of Gunton Park, surrounded by wide open fields and lots and lots of deer. It's run by art dealer Ivor Braka, and his eclectic collection is scattered throughout the pub and bedrooms - think Tracey Emin in the dining room, Damien Hirst in the bar - making it as much gallery as gastropub.

Private members club Astor Club has introduced a new dining experience led by a prominent Chicago chef. Trevor Teich, who earned a Michelin star at his Bucktown fine dining restaurant Claudia, now leads the club's culinary program. At The Chef's Table, he presents a tasting menu that showcases seasonal ingredients and French technique. The exclusive 10-seat communal experience is priced at $325 per person. 24 E. Goethe Street.

The MAZI Food Group is transforming Barbara Lynch's former Butcher Shop into a gastropub, featuring American quintessentials with Irish influence, like deviled eggs and oysters Rockefeller.

"We're doing classic dishes, I call it traditional because it's what people crave. People crave grandma's dishes."

Assemble Kitchen, a waterfront gastropub in Richmond, has closed temporarily for renovations. Known for dishes like lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes, its reopening will be announced soon.

Tom has taught me so much about proper gastropub dining and what it is to create truly brilliant food within the context of a pub menu - I can't wait to bring everything I've learned to Chelsea for The Chalk Freehouse."

At the time, alehouses and bars were primarily members-only, leaving only selected lodges and taverns for your everyday folks, which were geared more toward travelers rather than locals.

Rodriguez emphasized the vision for Nine as a neighborhood restaurant, saying, "While we will have an upscale tasting menu, we want to ensure accessibility, especially with our bar seating and smaller plates."

The Lighterman offers a Sunday lunch experience with a distinctive sharing roast, set in a stylish gastropub environment overlooking Granary Square, ideal for casual dining.
