Father's Office will close its sizeable Arts District location on September 5, 2025, owner Sang Yoon confirmed. The Downtown location opened in January 2020 but closed three months later for a year and a half because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The restaurant reopened in November 2021 and faced inflation, labor strikes, and other headwinds. Yoon said the Arts District spot never regained momentum after multiple false starts and did not catch on with the neighborhood. Father's Office began in 2000 on Montana Avenue with a gastropub menu and became known for a dry-aged gourmet burger, expansive craft beer list, and a no-modifications policy.
Father's Office, one of LA's most lauded and popular gastropubs, is closing its sizeable Arts District location on September 5, 2025, confirms chef and owner Sang Yoon. The Downtown location of the Santa Monica and Culver City restaurant first opened in January 2020, before temporarily closing just three months later for a year and a half due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Father's Office first opened in 2000 when Yoon, a former executive chef of Michael's, acquired a small dive bar on Santa Monica's Montana Avenue. There, he installed a gastropub menu - something not yet seen in Los Angeles - with Spanish tapas-style dishes and drinking food he had tasted around the world. The restaurant became famous for its burger, made with dry-aged beef, caramelized onions, Gruyere, Maytag blue cheese, and arugula over elongated sandwich buns.
