Despite its real, devastating impacts across the United States, road rage is only explicitly penalized in a few states, like Utah. The scarcity of not only legal but also clinical treatment guidelines is unsurprising when research remains limited. As a psychiatrist, for example, I have met patients with histories of such behaviors, but not yet colleagues in my profession with expertise on this issue. One thing appears clear, however: Road rage is multifactorial and not traceable to any single cause or diagnosis.
PHILADELPHIA (KABC) -- An Amazon driver was arrested last week for a road rage murder in Philadelphia, the U.S. Marshals Service announced. Troy Johnson, 30, is accused of intentionally hitting 29-year-old Rigoberto Hernandez with his delivery truck following a verbal altercation. Hernandez died at the hospital. Investigators with the Marshals Fugitive Task Force from Philadelphia along with local homicide detectives arrested Johnson at a home belonging to his family members without incident. He was then sent to Lehigh County for processing.
The deadly altercation occurred after two vehicles collided around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday near Willbeam Avenue and Norbridge Avenue, according to Castro Valley News on Facebook. When officers arrived, they found one of the individuals involved had serious visible injuries, the outlet reported. The person was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The man was later identified as Jason Elola, 49, a father of nine and grandfather of four.
Now, the case has finally ended. After a jury trial this year where he was convicted of aggravated mayhem and attempted murder, David was sentenced to an eight-year prison term, plus a prison term of seven years to life. He gets credit for the more than 4,000 days he spent confined - both in jail and at a state mental hospital - while the case was pending, court records show.
Video circulating on social media shows a violent road rage encounter in shopping center parking lot on Saturday. Social media posts indicate the incident occurred at a shopping center located at Francisquito and Sunset avenues in West Covina. In the footage, two sedans - one silver and one gray - can be seen pursuing each other through the parking lot. Almost like a demolition derby, the two cars were seen driving into each other, causing items to fly out of both vehicles.
