Elola and his family were driving in their Subaru, celebrating a son's birthday in San Francisco, and decided to stop for ice cream."

Preliminary findings indicate a physical altercation occurred between both subjects stemming from a suspected road rage incident. The man killed was identified as 49-year-old Jason Elola, a father of nine. Elola and his family were celebrating a son's birthday in San Francisco and stopped for ice cream when they were allegedly cut off by a full-size SUV near Wilbeam and Norbridge avenues in Castro Valley at about 7:40 pm. The family claims the SUV rammed their Subaru several times, prompting Elola to exit the vehicle and confront the other driver. A fight ensued; California Highway Patrol officers found Elola injured on the ground and he died later that night at the hospital. The other driver, 37-year-old Martin Davis Jr., left the scene.
