"ABC7 News was on scene when the suspect told officer about what happened. In the video, the driver tells officers: "I cut him off accidentally and he just plowed me, right behind me. All the way through here right to here. Then he jumps in front of me. That's when we collide." He goes to say, "He raises his hands. As soon as he attacks me... ring him up... he hits the ground.""
Jason Elola, a father and grandfather, was attacked on Wilbeam Avenue in Castro Valley and later died at a hospital. The incident began with a car crash around 7:30 p.m. that may have started as road rage and escalated into a fight. The other driver initially left, then contacted CHP and returned to the scene; he was booked into custody. Video captured the encounter and investigators believe witnesses may have cellphone footage. Family members say Elola was protecting his family and urge witnesses to come forward and be honest to help the investigation.
