This October, Aruba is set to transform into a global stage for food, culture, and community as the Autentico Culinary Festival returns for its second year. From October 11-19, the island will welcome chefs, locals, and visitors for a weeklong celebration of diverse flavors, creative collaboration, and culinary storytelling. Organized by the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.), Autentico has quickly become the island's signature food festival, highlighting not only Aruba's rich heritage but also its position as a rising culinary destination in the Caribbean.
Big news for the south London massive - Nathaniel Mortley, aka NattyCanCook, is launching his very first restaurant. Opening in October 2210 by NattyCanCook will be landing in Herne Hill, serving up bold Caribbean flavours with a fine-dining twist. If you don't already know Natty, you're about to. He smashed it with his sold-out pop-up at The Greyhound in Peckham (and picked up Condé Nast Traveller's "One to Watch" award while he was at it).
This simple starter of fried plantains quickly became the star of the menu at Adrian Forte's modern Caribbean restaurant Lucia, which opened on Fairfax Avenue in the spring. The caramelized, crispy plantains are heightened with a pickled Scotch bonnet aioli that's based on a recipe from Forte's "Yawd" cookbook and served on the side. Forte calls the pickled Scotch bonnet aioli his "utility paste" and always has some on hand to add to chili, lasagna, rice, a marinade, dressing or any number of dishes.
Golden Krust has opened a new location at JFK Airport, offering Caribbean cuisine including authentic Jamaican patties and jerk chicken. The restaurant is part of JFK's $19 billion renovation project.
