"It's such an honor to be the one to give it a refresh while paying homage to what it was."
"This place is a fusion,"
"With my touch, even more so."
Jonathan S. Young opened Sangria & Salt on Sept. 12 at 2327 Mission St. near 19th Street. The space retains a classic brick wall, a black-and-white photograph of Original McCarthy's owners, and a horseshoe-shaped bar rumored to be 140 feet long from the Original McCarthy's era. The building housed Cha Cha Cha from 1997 until ownership changes and sales led to a 2024 listing. A mural by Melanie Gelman featuring Caribbean and Asian flowers draws from a tattoo of Young. The concept merges Caribbean cuisine with design elements that honor the venue's history.
