PG&E confirmed that a gas leak had occurred near that location. A spokesperson, Tamar Sarkissian, told us that a PG&E crew was on-site by 11:15 p.m. the night of April 9 and after working for about two hours, stopped the flow of gas as 'safely and as quickly as possible' - by 1:32 a.m. Friday morning.
"It's very important to understand that we have confirmed there is one person in the residence. It is certainly possible that there are more. Unlikely at this point, with the information that we have, but we have seen this happen," said Const. Tyler Bell-Morena.
At least 10 people have been killed in a fire that broke out in the trauma care unit of a hospital in the eastern Indian state of Odisha, officials say. The fire, which started early on Monday on the first floor of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in the city of Cuttack, was likely caused by a short circuit, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi told reporters after visiting the hospital.

One person is dead following a fire at a residence in Clarington, Ont., Sunday night, according to Durham police. Crews arrived at the fire on Nash Road just before 10:40 p.m., police said in a statement Monday morning. When they got there, they found one person dead inside the home. Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal is on scene and is investigating the cause of the blaze, police said.
The deaths from a fire in a mall in Pakistan's Karachi have risen to at least 50 as firefighters recovered more bodies from the debris of the charred building. "We have found 20 to 25 dead bodies, or you call them remains," Deputy Commissioner Javed Nabi Khoso told the media on Wednesday. The Gul Plaza mall in Karachi the country's biggest city caught fire late on Saturday. The blaze raged on for more than 24 hours before it could be doused.
Firefighters were dispatched to a six-story apartment building on 35th St. near 31st Ave. in Astoria after a fire broke out on the third floor just before 11 p.m. on Thursday. A woman in her 90s and a 61-year-old woman were removed from an apartment and taken to Mount Sinai Queens, where the older woman died. Her name was not immediately disclosed. The younger woman was listed in critical condition at the hospital, officials said. The fire was put out by 11:30 p.m.
A fire at the Stanley M. Isaacs Houses left three people injured after flames broke out on the eighth floor of one of the NYCHA towers on First Avenue between East 93rd and East 94th Streets, according to the New York City Fire Department. Firefighters said the blaze was brought under control in about 30 minutes and that crews searched the building to ensure no other occupants were trapped.
BERKELEY A 74-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon in a fire at her duplex near Strawberry Creek Park. Authorities were trying to confirm her identity and notify relatives before releasing her name. The fire erupted about 3:53 p.m. Wednesday at a single-story duplex in the 1300 block of Poe Street. Officials said the first crew of firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke showing from three sides of the structure. Crews were also alerted there was a possible victim inside the house.
