The scene of the fatal incident is currently closed off as Gardaí carry out a technical examination The fatal collision took place on the northbound stretch of the motorway at Carrigane, Mitchelstown at around 9:15pm between junction 11 and junction 12. The body of the pedestrian was taken to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The male cyclist was discovered unresponsive at the scene at Batterstown, Ballivor, on Friday, September 12. He was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. A man, aged in his 40s, who was arrested as part of the investigation, is currently detained at a Garda station in the Eastern Region where he can be detained for up to 24 hours.
