A man in his 40s died after being struck by a car on the northbound M8 at Carrigane, Mitchelstown, at about 9.15pm between junctions 11 and 12. His body was taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem. The car driver, a man in his 20s, was uninjured. Gardaí closed the motorway section while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene and appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage, asking people to contact Fermoy Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line. Separately, a motorcyclist in his 70s died after colliding with a van on the N24 at Cahir at about 11:05am; the road remains closed and Gardaí requested footage and witness contact to Cahir Garda Station.
