Padraig Nugent was the sole occupant of a car that crashed at Culleenmore, Kilglass in the early hours of Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Nugent played at all levels with Kilglass Gaels, helped the club win the Roscommon intermediate county title in 1999, and remained an active club member after retiring from playing. The club expressed deep sadness and will fly its flag at half-mast. Local residents described him as well-liked and from a respected family. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and any dash-cam footage, asking people to contact Boyle Garda Station on 071 966 4620.
