The San Jose Police officer charged with molesting a teenage girl more than a decade ago had been seeking certification as a foster parent and was also accused by his former wife of physically abusing her.
Brown suffered the first of many seizures in Santa Rita Jail when she was 20. During her incarceration, she'd passed out in her cell dozens of times, lost the use of her legs and repeatedly begged to go to a hospital.
"It is a football festival that they look forward to all year. Here, they can meet their peers, play against each other in a beautiful stadium, listen to the anthems in the final, win a medal or a cup, and simply be representatives of their country," he says.
"Tiki's case, however, was unlike anything Isabel had encountered before. He was so shut down that several behaviorists believed he might be beyond rehabilitation—but that didn't stop her."
Grace's case exemplifies systemic failures in state care, highlighting negligence towards vulnerable individuals, including years of abuse and inadequate oversight from care agencies.
I am pleased but not surprised that these baseless charges have been dropped. This experience has been traumatic, but the outpouring of support from my community, colleagues, and friends has meant everything.
