Santa Clara County paid $5.5 million in September to settle a lawsuit brought by a former foster youth who accused Dr. Patrick Clyne of sexual abuse. The payment is the county's first to a Clyne accuser and attorneys expect additional lawsuits. Court records show repeated warnings that children in Clyne's care were being abused while county systems continued to employ him, place foster children in his home and allow medical examinations. Clyne has denied wrongdoing and faces no criminal charges related to these allegations. The plaintiff described the emotional toll of preparing the case.
