Officer Saul Duran, a San Jose Police officer, faces charges of molesting a teenage girl. Court records reveal that he sought certification as a foster parent, despite previous domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife. Concerns about his background were raised, questioning local authorities' awareness of such issues during hiring. Duran was hired by the San Jose Police Department in 2003 and is currently on leave after being charged with five counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.
The San Jose Police officer charged with molesting a teenage girl more than a decade ago had been seeking certification as a foster parent and was also accused by his former wife of physically abusing her.
Any significant evidence of abuse would 'definitely be a red flag,' said Steve Baron, a former social worker. Duran's domestic violence allegations were claimed to be "unfounded and untrue".
Duran, who has been placed on leave, was freed after posting $250,000 bail due to prosecutors charging him with five counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.
The police department stated it cannot discuss Duran's personnel record, but thorough background checks conducted by active officers include reviews of personal and criminal history.
