Prospective mom of brothers to testify a 3rd day at Ontario murder, assault trial | CBC
"The trial for two women accused of murdering a boy and assaulting his younger brother, both of whom they were planning to adopt, resumes around 10 a.m. ET. Becky Hamber will be back in the witness box in Ontario Superior Court in Milton. Hamber testified yesterday about methods she and wife Brandy Cooney used for years to try to control the behaviour of two boys in their care in their Burlington home."
"They included locking the boys, L.L and J.L., in their rooms for up to 18 hours at a time, with one break, and zip-tying them into wetsuits. L.L. was 12 when he died in December 2022, severely malnourished and underweight. J.L. testified earlier in the judge-only trial before Justice Clayton Conlan. Both women have pleaded not guilty. Warning: Court proceedings detail alleged child abuse."
Becky Hamber and Brandy Cooney face first-degree murder charges in Ontario after a 12-year-old foster boy, L.L., died in December 2022. The boys had been in the women’s care in Burlington for about five years while the couple attempted to adopt them. Hamber testified about long-term control methods used on L.L. and his younger brother J.L., including locking them in bedrooms for up to 18 hours with one break and zip-tying them into wetsuits. L.L. was found severely malnourished and underweight. J.L. has testified in the judge-only trial. Both women have pleaded not guilty to charges including confinement, assault with a weapon, and failing to provide the necessaries of life.
