There's big delays in our court system and I will share my frustration that sometimes I don't think these persistent offenders are getting the deterrent sentence they need. We do have a problem with repeat offenders coming back to stores time and time again and we do need some concerted effort to tackle them and stop their offending.
The 17-year-old is alleged to have brazenly swiped cosmetic products from the shelves in dozens of raids on the London branches of the high street giant over the last two years. The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, has been charged with 53 counts of shoplifting from Boots, as well as four allegations of shoplifting at Holland and Barrett.
We are having real success tackling the crimes that terrorise communities. But the crimes that tear at the fabric of communities, like shop theft and shop robbery, continue to rise and we must do more. That is why we are putting 13,000 more neighbourhood officers on the beat, and have invested 2 billion more in forces across the country since we took office.

Blue-state governors seem to be responding to President Trump's anti-crime campaign with Marxist tactics. Not the communist, Karl, that is, but the comedian Brothers. In "Duck Soup," Chico Marx famously deceives a wealthy widow by asking "Who are you gonna believe, me or your own eyes?" It's an apt metaphor for Governor Kathy Hochul of New York when she poses as a defender of law and order.
