"A uniformed officer shoplifting in plain sight was reprehensible behaviour', the tribunal said. Following a hearing held on 13 February, a panel found his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct and would have justified his dismissal had he still been a member of the force."
Former Pc David Fyfe was caught on CCTV stealing a tuna baguette from Pret A Manger in Wood Green, north London, while on duty in April 2025. He selected the sandwich, walked out without paying, and was seen entering a police car. A store employee reported the incident. When interviewed, Fyfe admitted taking the sandwich but denied stealing it, claiming his failure to pay was an oversight due to lack of sleep and a recent argument. A misconduct panel found his behaviour constituted gross misconduct and would have resulted in dismissal had he remained employed. The panel deemed a uniformed officer shoplifting in plain sight reprehensible.
