"Two illegal-migrant lovebirds traveled from Manhattan to Long Island last week to steal from a Target store before they were caught and handed over to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, authorities said. Gustavo Tellez Carillo, 36, and his girlfriend, Erika Gomez Moreno, 33, tried to shoplift an undisclosed amount of merchandise from the store in Westbury last Sunday night, Nov. 9, officials said. Nassau County police were called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. and apprehended them."
"Nassau police transferred the couple to ICE as part of the county's controversial partnership with the feds, which allows local cops to work directly with federal immigration agents to identify and detain illegal migrants. The county is already on track to have detained more than 3,000 migrants for ICE under the deal, signed by County Executive Bruce Blakeman earlier this year, and has 10 detectives deputized by the feds on standby to assist in any immigration operations."
Gustavo Tellez Carillo, 36, and Erika Gomez Moreno, 33, traveled from Manhattan to Long Island and attempted to shoplift merchandise from a Target store in Westbury on Nov. 9. Nassau County police responded around 7:30 p.m., apprehended the pair, and found after a short investigation that they were in the country illegally. Authorities did not disclose their country of origin. Both were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, making them subject to removal. Nassau County handled the transfer under its 287(g) agreement with ICE, which has detained thousands and deputized detectives.
