That was the fate of Mustapha Kharbouch, a queer Palestinian student at Brown University. While mourning his fellow students, Kharbouch found himself confronting false accusations. Across social media, attempts by the university to protect his privacy were painted as proof of guilt.
Four people have been arrested, and police said they were seeking felony battery charges against three of them for their roles in an altercation that led to gunfire near a school last week. In a statement, Richmond police said they made the arrests last Wednesday after a department SWAT team served a search warrant at an undisclosed location in North Richmond.

At a press conference today, the Oakland Police Department provided fresh details on a Nov. 12 shooting at Skyline High School. The incident sent the school into lockdown for the third time this school year. OPD Assistant Chief James Beere said that the 15-year-old shooting victim is recovering and "in good spirits." He said officers got to the campus within two minutes and were able to provide life-saving medical assistance to him until paramedics arrived.
OAKLAND, Calif. -- A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of college football coach John Beam, who was featured in the Netflix show "Last Chance U" and remains in critical condition after being shot on the school's campus, the Oakland Police Department and other authorities said Friday. Few other details were available. It was the second time in two days there was a shooting at a school in Oakland. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee described Beam as a "giant" and a mentor, educator and lifeline for young people. "For over 40 years, he has shaped leaders on and off the field, and our community is shaken alongside his family," Lee said.
Holly's TikTok accounts contained white supremacist symbols, the Anti-Defamation League said, and the name of his most recent account included a reference to a popular white supremacist slogan. The account was unavailable on Friday. TikTok said accounts associated with Holly had been banned. Holly's family could not be reached. The Associated Press left a message at a telephone number associated with the house that police searched after the shooting.

Why a semi-automatic rifle is more valuable than her life, she said. She added: To our lawmakers and people in power: who the hell is going to do something? Are you courageous or are you a coward? In a news release issued Friday, police said the teen is facing charges including attempted murder and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner linked to the shooting outside York Memorial Collegiate Institute on Wednesday. The incident happened at 11:54 a.m. that day, in the Keele Street and Donald Avenue area. Investigators say that two groups of people exchanged gunfire across Keele Street in front of the school. Investigators have previously said they believe the incident was targeted.
