Officers received a report Monday night that, on a previous day, a second grade student at Mark G. Hoyle Elementary School may have brought a gun to school and showed it to at least two other students.

During their intervention, they observed the student concealing an item in the waistband area. The site safety staff identified the item as a firearm, safely removed it, and immediately secured it away from other students and staff. No students or staff were injured during this incident. Vallejo Police officers retrieved the loaded, unregistered firearm from the school staff and rendered it safe.

EAST FLATBUSH - A SCHOOL SAFETY agent at I.S. 285, the Meyer Levin Middle School for the Performing Arts, in East Flatbush suffered a knife wound to the calf on Wednesday, after intervening in a brawl between two students, the New York Post reports . The fight broke out on Beverly Road, outside the school, at 3:10 p.m., before the agent, age 53, stepped in to try to halt it.
On Nov. 21, three children, ages 4 and 5, asked to leave Cragmont's cafeteria, where the program is primarily held, and were allowed to go to the bathroom unattended, according to a parent of one of the children, who spoke to Berkeleyside on condition of anonymity. Parents in Pickering say they're concerned by the way a series of threats at a local elementary school have been handled by administrators in recent weeks, arguing the school needs to improve its communication and safety measures. William Dunbar Public School was placed in a lockdown on Jan. 27, after a threat made by phone against the school. The lockdown was subsequently lowered to a hold and secure after police arrived and assessed the scene, which was lifted at 2:20 p.m.
The parents of a schoolboy who was stabbed to death by a fellow pupil during his lunch break said they believe the school could have saved his life by acting on the red flags shown by his killer. Harvey Willgoose, 15, was murdered at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield in front of horrified children and teachers by Mohammed Umar Khan, 15, who took a hunting knife to school.
A public school teacher was arrested for assaulting a 10-year-old student inside a Brooklyn classroom Monday, police said. Moaz Mahmoud, 26, allegedly struck the student in the face before shoving and grabbing him during an argument around 11 a.m. inside Public School 276 on E. 83rd St. near Avenue K in Canarsie, cops said. The teacher was arrested about an hour later for acting in a manner injurious to a child and assault, police said.
The LGHS Bicycle Safety and Training Program requires every student who rides a bike to campus to take a safety course and register their bike online for free. The registration includes contact information and a picture of the bike so that the school can work with police if the bike is lost or stolen. The safety course requires students to watch a video and complete a test that emphasizes the importance of proper equipment and care, rules of the road and best practices.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that it had arrested a juvenile in connection with the alarming find that occurred Sunday, and noted that the items may be tied to another incident that unfolded near campus weeks earlier. The firearm and ammunition were found together in a bag, while the mask was located near the bag. According to a Sheriff's Office release,
Jack Hamner, the president of the East Side Teachers Association, said 70% of the district's students are English language learners, homeless, foster youth or low income and can't afford to lose access to counselors, social workers and advisors. Those are some severely needy kids. They need their support systems more than ever, Hamner said. The positions they're cutting, these are the mental health and wellness services that our kids desperately need.
