An asylum seeker who took his own life on the Bibby Stockholm barge would still be alive were it not for failures in his care by the Home Office and NHS mental health workers, his family has said. Leonard Farruku, 27, was found dead in December 2023 on the government's former accommodation vessel for migrants, which was moored at Portland Port, Dorset.
Recording a conclusion of suicide, Dorset coroner Rachael Griffin said Mr Farruku had not made any complaints about the accommodation. Speaking at the hearing in Bournemouth, she also said he had not been subject to "racism or inappropriate acts" while onboard. Mr Farruku's sisters Marsida Keci and Jola Dushku have questioned how he was allowed to be moved to the Bibby Stockholm in November 2023, having struggled with his mental health since the death of their parents.
Professor Bates emphasized how intertwined the miscommunication about Mr. Goss's medication and his pre-existing conditions contributed to the tragic outcome of this case. His failure to timely identify the heart condition led to misguided actions.
"A British engineer died on a luxury superyacht in the Caribbean after being electrocuted while repairing a fault, an inquest has heard. Roy Temme, from Southampton, was one of the 17-strong crew of the 62.5 metre-long Baton Rouge when it was moored in Falmouth Harbour, Antigua."
Toxicology tests revealed that Daiva Antanaviciene had a blood alcohol level of 412 mg/100 ml, far exceeding lethal limits, which indicated her severe alcohol dependence.
Senior coroner Graeme Irvine described the tragic incident resulting in Paul Atkinson's death during a competition at Lee Valley VeloPark, opening an inquest into the circumstances.
