He took out a knife and raised it above his head during an initial interaction with gardaí shortly before the shooting. A local resident, Richard Desay, witnessed Mr Nkencho waving a large knife toward gardaí after officers approached him on a green area near the Eurospar store in Hartstown. The witness account was given at a sitting of Dublin District Coroner's Court during the inquest into the fatal incident.
