Ex-Arsenal player's inquest 'will not be short process'
"This is not going to be a short process."
"the nature of the contact between the two players involved"
"deepest condolences"
"an issue of player safety for our wider membership"
Billy Vigar, a former Arsenal youth striker who played for Chichester City, died in September at age 21, five days after colliding with a concrete wall while trying to keep the ball in play at Wingate & Finchley FC in London. A pre-inquest review at Barnet Coroner's Court heard that Metropolitan Police and Barnet Council investigations remain under way. Senior coroner Andrew Walker instructed the Met to examine the nature of the contact between the two players and offered his deepest condolences to Vigar's family. The council investigated potential health and safety breaches and confirmed the concrete perimeter wall had been removed. The Met estimated four to six weeks for its probe but said progress depends on the Football Association, and the Professional Footballers' Association is also investigating, describing concrete walls as an issue of player safety.
