On Tuesday, the Orange County Board of Supervisors directed staff to cross-reference voter rolls with pet registration data in the county in order to make sure there are no four-legged voters with names like Fido, Fifi, Spot, Sparky or Lucky casting ballots in the next special election in November. "How do we check that dogs and cats or whatever are not on our (voter) rolls?" Supervisor Dan Wagner asked during the meeting Tuesday.
Tom Lopach, president and CEO of the Voter Participation Center, a nonprofit focused on registering people of color, unmarried women, and young voters-three groups that make up what the organization calls the New American Majority-described the severity of the situation to NPQ: "We've seen an unprecedented effort to reduce access to voting on so many levels." He noted that executive orders, federal and state legislation, court rulings, and policy and staffing changes across government agencies form "a multi-pronged attack on voting."
A notice from Congregation Shaare Zion in Gravesend obtained by The Post warns that the election's outcome could pose "serious problems" throughout the city and left the synagogue "no choice" but to require proof of voter registration for tickets to Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services. Mamdani isn't directly mentioned in the announcement, but a source with the Orthodox synagogue said the move was directed at the Democratic mayoral nominee.
Gavin Newsom's gambit, which is what it is, is going to disenfranchize millions of California voters because they all supported their redistricting commission, the Citizens Redistricting Commission. He has to traverse and trample upon or shred the state constitution to do this.
The League of Women Voters of Cupertino-Sunnyvale is inviting residents to think nationally and help out locally on National Voter Registration Day.
