"“Californians have been uniquely targeted by the Trump Administration,” Newsom said in signing a bill authorizing the ballot measure. “Thanks to the hard work of the California legislature, they will have a choice to fight back.”"
"“The Trump Administration has attacked working families,” Keith Brown, secretary-treasure of the Alameda Labor Council, told The Oaklandside. “The Yes on Proposition 50 campaign is a tangible way we can fight back.”"
Today is the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 4 statewide special election on Proposition 50. Voters may register online through the Alameda County Registrar of Voters or the California Secretary of State's website. Registered voters can vote early in person starting Oct. 25 at select polling locations or vote in person on Election Day, Nov. 4. Mail ballots must be postmarked or delivered to an election drop box by Nov. 4. Proposition 50, backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, would authorize the state legislature to temporarily change Congressional district maps through 2030; the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission would resume oversight after the 2030 census. The measure responds to partisan redistricting moves in Texas and Missouri and is supported by progressive labor organizations urging a Yes vote.
