"Get the habit of registering, go on, I'll look forward to you. I've been through an election already and a lot of people weren't registered to vote. I said they probably don't vote because there's no one to represent them, no one to fight for them, no one to stand up for them."
"He's someone being actively pursued by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB)... CAB don't come after you for the craic, they come after you for very serious reasons. I just think some of this coverage of Gerry Hutch, which I don't wish to add to by making him a martyr, giving him attention, giving him free publicity, and that's what actually concerns me."
"The people of Dublin Central rejected him in the last general election, I believe the people of Dublin Central will reject him again. There's many people who very nearly, respectfully, got elected. He didn't get elected, right, and I don't believe he's going to win the by-election."
Gerry Hutch has announced his intention to run in the Dublin Central byelection scheduled for May, which will fill the seat vacated by former Fine Gael finance minister Paschal Donohoe. Hutch narrowly lost to Labour's Marie Sherlock in the 2024 general election. In a campaign message, he encourages voter registration and claims the government wants to keep people ignorant. Government officials, including Mr Harris, have dismissed Hutch as not a celebrity and pointed out he is being pursued by the Criminal Assets Bureau. Harris expressed concern about media coverage giving Hutch attention and predicted the people of Dublin Central would reject him again, as they did in the previous election.
