Mysterious 'Tasmanian Devil' Space Explosion Baffles Astronomers
Astronomers have observed a luminous fast blue optical transient (LFBOT) nicknamed the Tasmanian devil that repeatedly flashed at peak brightness in space.
The observation of the Tasmanian devil's flaring events could help scientists understand the cause of LFBOTs, which are still not fully understood.
The leading theories for the cause of LFBOTs are failed supernovae, intermediate-mass black holes, or interactions with Wolf-Rayet stars. [ more ]
Massive 'lost' asteroid a longshot to hit Earth in 2024, NASA says
A 54-million-ton asteroid that was previously thought to possibly hit Earth in 2024 has been confirmed by NASA to not be a threat.
The asteroid, known as 2007 FT3, was first spotted in 2007 but disappeared from telescopes. However, scientists were able to calculate the risk of potential impacts based on available data. [ more ]

Here is what to know about Saturday's SpaceX launch.
SpaceX's Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built, completed its second test flight reaching an altitude of about 90 miles above Earth before losing contact.
The flight did not achieve all of SpaceX's objectives, but it showed progress towards the company's ambitious spaceflight goals.
The Super Heavy booster exploded shortly after separation, but the upper Starship stage continued to travel. [ more ]
