Largest Martian meteorite EVER found on Earth to go on sale this week
Briefly

The largest Martian meteorite, NWA 16788, weighing 25 kilograms, will be auctioned at Sotheby's for an expected £1.5-3 million ($2-4 million). It has already reached a bid of £1.2 million ($1.6 million). This meteorite is 70 percent larger than any previously found, representing seven percent of Martian material on Earth. There are only 400 confirmed Martian meteorites, making them extremely rare. NWA 16788 was discovered in Niger and exhibits features indicating it passed through the atmosphere at high temperatures.
This Martian meteorite is the largest piece of Mars we have ever found by a long shot. So it's more than double the size of what we previously thought was the largest piece of Mars.
There are only 400 officially confirmed Martian meteorites on Earth compared to 77,000 meteorites of other types. This makes Martian meteorites exceptionally rare compared to other types of space rocks.
