NASA shares new video of asteroid and updates chance it will hit Earth
Briefly

NASA has recently updated the chances of asteroid 2024 YR4, discovered in December, colliding with Earth, reducing the odds from 3.1% to 1.5%. The asteroid, posing a potential threat on December 22, 2032, is currently around 30 million miles away. New observations captured by ground-based telescopes have refined our understanding of its path, allowing for more accurate predictions. By April 2025, the asteroid will be too faint for detection, with the next update feasible only in 2028, when it returns closer to Earth.
NASA has significantly reduced the chance of asteroid 2024 YR4 colliding with Earth to 1.5% as new observations helped refine its trajectory.
The latest tracking now indicates a 1-in-67 likelihood of impact in December 2032, down from 3.1%. Continuous observations improve prediction accuracy.
