When firefighters arrived, they put out the blaze but found two seniors dead. Police have now classified the incident as a homicide and are looking for the man who set the fire. Sources familiar with the investigation report that the suspect had visited several homes in the area and asked to use a phone charger but was ultimately turned away.
Three women and three men were taken to hospital when a blaze ripped through the Indian Aroma restaurant on Woodford Avenue in Gants Hill, Ilford, on 22 August at about 21:00 BST. The Met Police said the 16-year-old boy had been charged with six counts of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. He appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Monday, 8 September, and was remanded to a youth detention centre. He will appear at the Old Bailey on Monday, 6 October.
A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with an August fire that destroyed a Somerville house and damaged nearby buildings, police announced Thursday. John Grasso, who is currently unhoused, was arrested for Wanton destruction of property and breaking and entering a building in the nighttime, the Somerville Police Department said. The Somerville Police and Fire Departments and Massachusetts State Fire Marshal arrested Grasso in a joint effort, police said.
A second person has died as a result of a house fire in Richmond Hill, Ont., on Monday, according to York Regional Police. The victim, a 24-year-old woman, died on Wednesday in hospital of her injuries. In a news release on Thursday, police identified her as Helya Bahari-Kashani of Richmond Hill. An 11-year-old girl, also injured in the blaze, died in hospital on Tuesday. Three other people hurt in the fire remain in critical condition in hospital.

The Met Police said a 15-year-old boy and a 54-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to danger life.
A Deutsche Bahn (DB) spokeswoman told the dpa news agency that the fire appeared to have been fueled by an accelerant. Initial findings indicated cable sheathing had been set on fire near railway switches the mechanisms that let a train move from one track to another. Police described it as a "switch fire" that was large enough to have been noticed by a nearby resident who informed authorities shortly before midnight.
