A British jury convicted three men of aggravated arson for setting fire to a warehouse in East London that stored equipment bound for Ukraine. The attack was orchestrated by operatives connected to the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary company. The men were recruited through two other accomplices who had previously pled guilty. Investigators uncovered that the recruits did not know they were carrying out tasks on behalf of Wagner, which has seen its influence wane after the death of its founder in 2023.
The British jury convicted Nii Mensah, Jakeem Rose, and Ugnius Asmena of aggravated arson for the March 2024 fire at a Ukrainian-owned warehouse in East London.
Prosecutors indicated that the men were recruited by Dylan Earl and Jake Reeves, who were contacted by operatives of the Wagner Group through a Telegram channel.
