A Bronx squatter is facing pending charges for allegedly setting an apartment building on fire, which resulted in a resident's dog dying from smoke inhalation. The incident occurred on August 12, when firefighters responded to reports of flames at 4140 Carpenter Ave. A 42-year-old man reportedly broke into a vacant apartment, ignited a fire, and jumped out of the building, sustaining minor injuries. Two firefighters were also treated for injuries sustained while extinguishing the blaze. The squatter is expected to be charged with arson and animal cruelty.
Firefighters received reports of flames bursting from a six-story apartment building on Carpenter Ave. at around 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 12.
A 42-year-old emotionally disturbed man broke into a vacant 4th-floor apartment and set it ablaze before jumping from the window.
During the incident, firefighters encountered a resident's dog that had suffered smoke inhalation and subsequently died.
The squatter is expected to face charges for arson and animal cruelty.
