The City University of New York (CUNY) released in November its second annual who's who of its massive alumni network with its 50 Under 50 list, and the Bronx was well represented, with honorees from the borough, educated at Bronx CUNY schools or with strong ties to the Boogie Down all making their mark on the world culturally, socially and economically. The Bronx Times caught up with a few of the list's esteemed honorees to get their reactions on being recognized, reflections on their journeys so far and their love story with the borough of the Bronx.

Sources familiar with the case said the victim, a 14-year-old boy, was riding the train when the suspect approached. The perpetrator was said to be swinging his arms while holding a sharp object in one of his hands. Police said the suspect slashed the boy across the left hand. The wounded teenager got off the train at 183rd Street while his attacker remained on board the 4 train as it pulled away.

Cops say both Martinez and Lopez Castillo allegedly attempted to rob 26-year-old Ronell Marte just before 3 a.m. inside Starlight Park on Sept. 3. The pair allegedly approached Marte, a special needs adult, and held him up at gunpoint, demanding his cellphone. Things turned deadly when Martinez allegedly opened fire, shooting Marte in the chest. EMA rushed Marte to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead.

a baby boy was briefly left alone in a stroller inside a Dunkin' Donuts in the Bronx on Tuesday morning, police said. The child, believed to be 3 to 4 months old, was found at 8:05 a.m. at 1791 Westchester Ave. in Soundview and remained unattended for about 20 minutes before officers from the 43rd Precinct responded to a 911 call about the abandoned child.

A 46-year-old BMW driver died early Sunday after he slammed into a support pillar underneath elevated subway tracks in the Bronx, police said. The driver was zipping south on Jerome Ave. in Fordham Heights when he sideswiped an I-beam supporting the overhead No. 4 train tracks near E. 181st St. just before 4:30 a.m., cops said. He then veered away, over-corrected and crashed his 2022 BMW 330i into another I-beam head-on, cops said.

Residents of a Bronx public housing complex say they smelled gas around the site of a partial building collapse in the hours and days leading up to the disaster that city officials are blaming on a boiler explosion. One man was killed and two people were wounded in separate shootings across Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx on a bloody Sunday night, police reported. NYPD sources said the first shooting happened in the Bronx at about 7:16 p.m. on Sept. 7 outside of an apartment building located at 611 East 161st St. in Melrose. Officers from the 42nd Precinct received a report of an assault in progress. When they arrived, they discovered a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the face. EMS rushed him to Lincoln Hospital, where he was treated for a bullet wound to the cheek and listed in stable condition.

The first occurred aboard a southbound D train at around 4:27 p.m. on Aug. 27. Cops say a 50-year-old man was ambushed by a knife-wielding robber who punched him in the face and stole his cellphone. Police reported that the victim was not hospitalized and refused medical attention at the scene. The perpetrator, meanwhile, fled the station on foot; he was last seen wearing black pants and a black shirt.

Bronx detectives are questioning a person of interest following a shooting rampage inside an apartment building on Wednesday morning that left one man dead and two others seriously wounded. A massive police presence converged in the area of 1412 College Ave. in Claremont after the shooting happened just before 8:35 a.m. on Aug. 27. Throughout the morning, two police helicopters swirled above numerous police officers and detectives who sealed off the area of East 170th Street and College Avenue while investigating the shooting.

This year's NYC Summer Streets season ends today with festivities in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Streets will begin closing in both boroughs at 5 a.m. Saturday and reopen at 3:30 p.m. No parking will be allowed until 4 p.m. From 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., New Yorkers can walk, run and cycle along car-free streets.
