"The only door inside the space is the bathroom door. As we peeled back the layers, we saw things in fundamental disrepair. It gave us the opportunity to future-proof the home and upgrade its bones."
"The kitchen is the first thing that welcomes you. We wanted to make it feel like a place you can work in that's not too precious, embracing a restaurant aesthetic."
"The stainless steel kitchen doesn't feel overly industrial when offset against warm brick tile floors, butter-colored wall tiles, and custom cherry millwork."
A talented design team renovated a 450 square foot building, previously a tailor's shop, into a stylish studio apartment for an American expat. Architect Rachel Robinson emphasized the importance of maximizing space, noting the only interior door leads to the bathroom. The renovation included upgrading the structure, installing underfloor heating, and concealed central air. A custom stainless steel kitchen was created to balance functionality and aesthetics, complemented by warm materials. The design features a dining banquette, a frosted glass screen for the bedroom, a compact living room, and a jewel-box bath.
