A man in Stockton was charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting a probation officer on fire, resulting in significant burns. On Thursday afternoon, the suspect entered the probation office wielding a lighter and a gas can. An emergency alert was triggered by the security guard, leading to probation officers confronting the suspect. A struggle ensued in which the suspect ignited the fuel. The injured probation officer was hospitalized, while Lopez also suffered injuries. He was booked on charges of attempted murder, obstructing an officer, and arson.
At 2:10 p.m. Thursday, the suspect entered the San Joaquin County adult probation office in Stockton with a lighter and a gas can.
During the tussle, the suspect was able to ignite the fuel, setting fire to one of the probation officers.
The probation officer suffered significant burns and was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the department.
