A hiker spotted the German shepherd stuck on a steep mountainside above rushing water Monday. She had to retreat for safety and called for help. Thankfully, folks from Animal Advocacy and Iron Paw Rescue responded around 8 p.m. and managed to make it across the water by anchoring themselves with a cable tied to a truck. They got to the dog and kept it calm. The video shows them sitting with the animal and giving it food.
A family was rescued over the weekend from a house surrounded by the surging South Yuba River, south of Donner Summit. The rescue happened on Sunday afternoon along the South Yuba River, the Truckee Fire Protection District said in a Facebook post. The family became trapped in their house after the river swelled amid "significant rainfall." SANTA CRUZ The victim of a Sunday morning crash at the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf that resulted in a vehicle driving through the railing and into the Monterey Bay has been identified as William Westerman, 65, of Scotts Valley. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office confirmed Westerman's identity Monday afternoon. On Monday, lilies had been placed at the spot on the wharf where the vehicle drove through the railing and a crew from the city of Santa Cruz was working to repair the damage.
Crews on Saturday responded to a report about several people who fell in the water at the mouth of Tomales Bay near Tomales Point in "rough ocean conditions," the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said in a social media post. The call came in at 11:53 a.m. from someone on the shore, Emily Fuller, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, told SFGATE.
