Surfer bit by shark at popular Bay Area beach
"A surfer at a popular beach north of Bodega Bay was bitten on the hand by a shark Friday, officials said. It happened on Friday at North Salmon Creek Beach, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post, which is an area of the Sonoma Coast State Park known for surfing and scenic views. According to KTVU-TV, the surfer was 300 to 400 yards away from the shore and surrounded by 8- to 12-foot waves when the shark bit them."
"After the surfer was bitten, they were able to make it to the shore by the time rescue crews arrived, the sheriff's office said. The surfer declined medical treatment but took themselves to the hospital later. A photo from the sheriff's office shows a bite mark in what appears to be the surfboard. Officials said the shark bite was only one of two major rescue calls in the county that day. A boat in Tomales Bay, an inlet in Marin County, capsized amid 8- to 12-foot waves."
