Flights at Newark Liberty International Airport were halted on Monday after a control tower was evacuated due to smoke, the FAA said in an advisory.

The ground stop began around 7:50 am ET and has been extended until at least 9:30 am, preventing aircraft from departing for Newark from major air traffic regions across the US and parts of Canada.
