In a recent interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy addressed ongoing safety concerns at Newark airport, particularly a series of radar and radio outages. Duffy attributed the issues to an outdated air traffic control system, some components of which are up to 50 years old. He emphasized the importance of addressing these glitches quickly, warning that similar incidents could emerge nationwide if not resolved. Despite the current troubles, he expressed optimism about rectifying the Newark situation shortly.
The system is old, right? This is a system that's 25 at best, sometimes 50 years old. The Congress and the country haven't paid attention to it.
What you see in Newark is going to happen in other places across the country. It has to be fixed.
