FAA announces dramatic cut in flights at Newark airport for the foreseeable future
Briefly

The FAA has imposed a significant reduction in flight operations at Newark Liberty International Airport, limiting the number of flights to 56 until June 15 due to ongoing runway construction. This cut represents a decrease of more than 30% from previously allowed flights. The limitation is also extended on Saturdays through the end of the year, responding to chaotic conditions caused by air traffic control shortages and technology issues. The FAA aims to alleviate delays and maintain safety until the construction is completed, with potential for future adjustments to flight limits.
Only 56 departing and arriving flights will be allowed at the New Jersey airport until construction at one runway is wrapped up on June 15.
Cutting flights at the airport was the only way to get a safe handle on the travel disarray that has led to hundreds of cancellations and delays.
Our goal is to relieve the substantial inconvenience to the traveling public from excessive flight delays due to construction, staffing challenges, and recent equipment issues.
The limit will continue on Saturdays through the end of the year because of the ongoing runway construction.
