Newark Airport still reporting hundreds of delays and cancellations Sunday
Briefly

Newark Airport continues to experience significant delays and cancellations, with over 300 flights affected on Sunday. United Airlines has reduced its schedule by cutting 35 flights daily due to ongoing issues, stating that the airport cannot accommodate its scheduled operations amid FAA staffing difficulties. The Federal Aviation Administration cited runway construction, equipment failures, and recent disruptions from air traffic controllers in Philadelphia as contributing factors. In response, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy plans to announce a new air traffic control system redesign to address these long-standing challenges.
"It's now clear - and the FAA tells us - that Newark airport cannot handle the number of planes that are scheduled to operate there in the weeks and months ahead," United CEO Scott Kirby said in a statement.
"I'm coming out with a plan that's gonna build a brand new air traffic control system, state of the art, gold plated, envy of the world, touching every phase of the systems that air traffic controllers use." U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Friday.
