Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy addressed the media regarding long-standing issues at Newark's airport that include radar outages and air traffic controller shortages. He attributed the ongoing problems to poor management in past administrations, specifically criticizing former President Trump for not enforcing necessary changes. Duffy reassured reporters of the airport's safety and emphasized the potential for similar issues nationwide if not addressed. He also pointed out the financial waste regarding allocated funds meant for these improvements, urging action to rectify the situation in the future.
"What you see in Newark is going to happen in other places across the country. It has to be fixed," Duffy stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
"Some billions of dollars were allocated from the last administration to this effort, and it was wasted. You don't see any result of any money that's been spent over four years," Duffy reflected.
"The president had a plan to come into the second part of his administration... to actually fix it," Duffy mentioned, pointing towards future efforts.
"Duffy reassured the public that Newark remains safe to travel from and that we are the safest airspace," emphasizing the continuing safety amidst the issues.
