Whether or not flag football becomes as ubiquitous as the iPhone, one of the country's fastest-growing sports was front and center during Super Bowl week in the Bay Area. The only tackle football played last week took place Sunday at Levi's Stadium. From the NFL's official Pro Bowl to a glow-in-the-dark game refereed by Eli Manning, the week's almost one dozen flag football events practically dwarfed the big game itself.

Pro Bowl games used to be full contact affairs. Then they slowly started removing some of the contact elements for injury concerns. It started to resemble non-contact football, especially across the line of scrimmage. So they decided to replace it with flag football and a skills competition. It's a thing that they did out of necessity, but just decided to go full on fun. I would embed this here, but NFL sharing rules refuse it.

He says that most youth football coaches don't know the first thing about coaching football at all. He also says that the average youth football coach knows little to nothing about concussions or chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease likely caused by repeated head injuries.
